Story: Still Waiting
Author: Sheila Adamson
Rating: All Ages
Author's summary: The Brigadier and Jo practise life without the Doctor.
Characters: Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Jo Grant, Sergeant Benton
Warnings: None

Recced because: There's not nearly enough UNIT fic out there to satisfy me, but this lovely piece does a great job of filling in some of the gaps. Learning to live without the Doctor is something particularly relevant given how the new series has portrayed departures, and here we get at that carefully and gently, through an investigation of a haunted house and an examination of what it's like to be the ones left behind, doing the paperwork, picking up the pieces, and waiting and wondering. All the voices are dead-on, especially the Brigadier's, and it's subtle and touching and funny, without ever being sentimental or cloying.

Story: A Tale of Two Doctors
Author: sensiblecat
Rating: All Ages
Author's summary: At the end of "Time Crash" the two TARDISes separated and took Five and Ten back to their respective timelines.

But something went a bit wrong. The Doctors separated. The TARDIS sort of......cloned.

Now Five has Ten's TARDIS, and he's about to find out about the Year that Never Was. But why's he in a parallel world, and who is the girl waiting on the beach?
Characters/Pairings: Fifth Doctor, Tenth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Pete Tyler, Mickey, Donna, Jack, Martha (Pairing: Tenth Doctor/Rose)
Warnings: None

Recced because: I'm a sucker for well-written multi-Doctor stories and this one ranks right up there as one of my absolute favourites. There's a bit of timey-whimey stuff, a lot of angst, and some fantastic in-depth examinations of a number of the issues that Series 3 brought to life. This is a Doctor who's soul is bared for all to see, a Doctor who's broken, but most of all we have a Doctor who's starting to heal. There's also an older, wiser Rose whose insights into the Doctor are absolutely brilliant. This is, in my opinion, one of sensiblecat's best stories and one where she shows us just what it means to be the Doctor.

Author's summary: Just what exactly did the Doctor mean when he said 'I was a dad once?'
Characters/Pairings: First Doctor, OCs, Susan
Warnings: none

Recced because: Really good character studies of the pre-series First Doctor are pretty thin on the ground. So when I found this one, it nearly jumped off the page at me. In about a thousand evocative words, the author takes us from the day the Doctor first meets his wife to the day he leaves Gallifrey. Readers might debate how well (or if) various plot elements fit in with their version of canon, but the use of language is lovely and the heartwarming final exchange with Susan made this story for me.
