Story: 'The Sacred Art Of Stealing'
Author: Netgirl_y2k
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 459
Author’s summary: 'A very serious and in no way silly story in which the Doctor attempts to pinch Sarah Jane's companions.'
Characters/Pairings: Ten, Sarah, Maria, Luke, Clyde
Warnings: None

Recommended because: I'm a sucker for companions who become more Doctorish than the fellow himself, and the vision of a weary (but quietly smug) Sarah telling Ten to bog off as he attempts to half-inch her kids is a peach. Short, daft, and funny. (And given the apparent casting situation for SJA season 2, I'm declaring the final paragraph canon.)

 Story: "A Matter of Timing"
Author: Forge
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 13.000
Author’s summary: "Crossover with Firefly. The wreck of a luxury liner is boarded, and Ace is kidnapped. Months later, the crew of the Serenity is caught up in the Doctor’s latest scheme. What experiments are being performed on Icarus? What's in the Box stolen from the Doctor's quarters? It's all a matter of timing, but events are slipping away from him. As tensions between the Doctor and Captain Reynolds mount, Ace’s time is running out."
Characters/Pairings: Seven, Ace, the Firefly crew.
Warnings: None.

Recommended because:  To be really, brutally honest, this story could use a good going-over for some mechanical/spelling/punctuation issues.  However, with that said up front, I still consider it well worth a rec for the quality of the characterizations, the fine ear for voices and dialogue, and the perfection with which Seven and Ace fit into the Firefly 'verse.  Seven's hidden darkness and twisty mind are shown to good advantage -- and the sequences in which he plays chess with River are genuine standouts.

I just found out that I'm having unexpected house guests -- tonight, ack!! -- so I'm posting Saturday's rec today, a little early . . .

Story: "The Little Ones"
Author: Kalleah
Rating:All ages.
Word Count: 1515
Author’s summary: "The Doctor takes the Rose to a beach to see an unexpected miracle."
Characters/Pairings: Ten/Rose
Warnings: None

Recommended because: Kalleah writes Ten and Rose beautifully, both as individuals and as a couple.  Notably, her Ten is more "alien" than most versions, without being unsympathetic or detached.  Also, her stories are the best I've encountered at showing the Doctor's love of science and sense of wonder at the Universe -- along with the joy he takes in sharing those things with an appreciative Rose.  This story provides a perfect, self-contained sample snippet.

Author’s summary: "The Doctor, Fitz and Anji visit a museum on a peaceful holiday planet. The exhibits hit a bit too close to home for Fitz."
Characters/Pairings: Eight, Fitz, Anji
Warnings: None

Recommended because: The Doctor was on his hands and knees in the sand, contentedly building a sandcastle. The sight of him in shorts and a brightly coloured shirt was faintly disturbing, but Fitz had long gotten over the urge to buy himself a T-shirt declaring 'I'M NOT WITH THAT NUTTER'. Anji was evidently still going through that stage of acquaintance. If (like me) you have only a passing understanding of Fitz's encounter with the Faction Paradox/Remote, you'll still appreciate why a museum filled with exact - and living - replicas of famous names causes a dash of angst to infiltrate the holiday atmosphere. A glorious combination of the daft and the emo (which is pretty much the definition of both Eight and Fitz, after all).
