Story: Alias Smith and Jones
Author: kbk
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1,763
Author's Summary: Sarah Jane meets the Prime Minister.
Characters/Pairings: Sarah Jane Smith/Harriet Jones
Warnings: none

Recced because: This does something much better than just setting up a convincing romance: It sets up a convincing friendship. As soon as kbk gets these two women in a room together, we can just feel that these are people who can get past roles and titles and know each other. There's that little frisson that seems to come out naturally from not glossing either character's strong will, there's K-9, there's the complicated spectre of the Doctor in the background, there's dashes of humor, and there's the warmth of comfort and familiarity between two adults out to save the world. There's just no bad here.

Definitely my feel-good rec, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Maybe I have a bit of a thing for good fluff after all.

Story: The Game of Making
Author: Lurky McLurklurk
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 1,809
Author's Summary: Martha finds out what the Doctor really likes.
Characters/Pairings: Ten/Martha
Warnings: AU, mind games

Recced because: It just might make your skin crawl enough that you hate yourself for enjoying it. This story is AU in terms not only of plot, but of character, I should note, but it's a true AU: Changes aren't random; they all stem from a central "what if?" I'll leave you unspoiled as to what the "what if" here is, but The Game of Making is one of the most interesting explorations of just what this whole Time Lord thing might mean that I've seen. In spirit it reminds me strongly of Big Finish's Unbound series.

Look, it's fanfic about an erotic Gedankenexperiment. What more do you need to know?

Story: And Is There Honey Still For Tea?
Author: uktechgirl
Rating: teen
Word Count: 71,164
Author's Summary: Rose Cottage, Sussex, 1926. The Doctor and Turlough have settled down to an idyllic life of tea, crumpets, and the click of red leather on willow. But is it really as perfect as it seems?
Characters/Pairings: Five/Turlough
Warnings: spontaneous human combustion, baked goods

Recced because: Five and Turlough do domestic. Let me repeat that: Five and Turlough do domestic. It goes... actually about as well as one might expect, given the oh so very proper, repressed Englishness of the alien gentlemen in question. There are secrets, lies, assumptions, hidden obligations, a murder mystery involving Gideon Mantell, and many questions answered with awkward silences. However there's also lounging in baths and hammocks, and cricket, mucking about in boats, and some odd alien version of love. If Dreaming of England is the granddaddy of all Five/Turlough fics then this is its worthy successor, a love letter that both celebrates the pairing while holding a mirror up to its flaws. It's both heartwarming and tragic, and with its epic length is makes for a wonderful summer read. With plenty of tea and biscuits on hand, naturally.
