Hello! I'll be reccing mostly New Who this week, with an occasional dose of Classic Who characters, and a couple of crossovers.

Story: THE LIFE CYCLE OF THE CRACKING MOSH TOAD (fragor beelzebufo), by A.C.E. Jenkins
Author: Kalima
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 4,983
Author's Summary: Anya has a business plan. The Doctor executes a hostile takeover. DoctorWho/BtVS crossover.
Characters/Pairings: Ten, Anya
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: A really well-written crossover that's true to both fandoms is a wonderful thing – and this story, which pretends to be crack, but sneaks in more than a little bit of angst – is very, very wonderful. The Tenth Doctor encounters vengeance demon Anya in a bar and tries to talk her out of an ecologically disastrous money-making scheme. The character voices are utterly perfect, and the more Ten and Anya bickered, the more I felt like I was reading a brilliant, lost scene from Buffy, season 6:
Dialogue excerpt under the cut. )
Even if you've never seen a single episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you should be able to follow along with this story, and for Buffy fans, it's an absolute must.

Story: Hardly Moving Yet
Author: Lurky McLurklurk
Rating: All Ages
Author's summary: Ace is coming to terms with her sexuality; the Doctor takes her on a magical history tour.
Characters/Pairings: Ace/various female OCs/canon characters, Seventh Doctor
Warnings: none
Word Count: ~3,100 words

Recced because: Ace is coming to terms with things that are hard to discuss; she has the Doctor to talk to, but sometimes, that's not so easy. Beautifully written, with lovely beat lines and wonderful use of repetition, this is a thoughtful and fascinating piece. There are some great bits of world-building, giving Ace new companions to explore herself with, new situations and adventures in which to learn more about herself and about the Doctor too, and all of the observations are clear and sharp. The mix of plot and introspection is perfectly handled, and the ending made me smile and smile.

Story: Sullivan and Jones, Medical Mysteries Our Specialty
Author: [livejournal.com profile] livii
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 3761
Author's Summary: Saving the world, one duck-person at a time.
Characters/Pairings: Harry Sullivan/Martha Jones
Warnings: None given

Recced because: Possibly the flagship story for [livejournal.com profile] the_twodoctors. Livii writes a charming, endearing Harry and spot-on Martha. They fight crime save the world some more, fall in love, and just might get that fairy tale ending. Maybe.
