Author's Summary: She can never shake the feeling that the balance they've struck is a fragile one that might shatter at any moment, destroying both of them in the wake of its collapse.

Recced because: I am amazed this story hasn't been recced here yet, because it's beautiful – a lovingly written portrait of a relationship between Eight and Sarah Jane that spans her lifetime from the SJA era onwards. Sarah Jane struggles not to tell Eight what she knows about Gallifrey's fate, and struggles just as much with the concept of a long-term romantic relationship – or at least, one with an unpredictable time traveller. Inevitably, of course, Eight finds out for himself about the Time War, leading to one last meeting with Sarah Jane, and eventually, bringing things full circle.
