Right, hello again; I'm your tour guide on
calufrax for the next two whole weeks. It's a bit early yet as I still have an hour to go on Sunday but I've got a full day planned tomorrow and might not get to it if I waited. Anyhow, I'm going to start with a story that I'm kind of surprised hasn't been recc-ed before. But, with all the new Doctor talk and the speculation about who might be cast (Idris Elba? Helen Mirren?), well, you might imagine why this story came to mind.
Title: Sunny and the Magic Box
Author: Amy Wolf
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 13678
Author's Summary: Sunny's read about wizards. They were never like this.
Characters/Pairings: Original Doctor, Original Companions
Warnings: None
Recc'ed Because: It's a possible glimpse into what might have been, now that the dice have been cast. Written back in 2007 but so much of it still reads true to the Doctor as a character, even to the rest of Tennant's run and Matt Smith's as well. It's part after-school adventure story like I used to read when I was ten, and it's part humor and part horror, with an instantly recognizable Doctor despite being "strangely translated." This is part of a series, of which the first story has already been recc-ed many moons ago, and the third is unfinished, but this one can be read standalone as well, and is rather brilliant at that :)
