Hello! I'm
dbskyler, your reccer for the week. I've again tried to mix things up by selecting a range of different genres and eras, so the only thing these stories have in common with each other is that they are among my favorites. I hope that some of them become your favorites, too!
Story: Turning and Turning
Author: eponymous_rose
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 3692
Author's Summary: Things changed. Rory stayed the same. (Contains spoilers for the series five finale.)
Characters/Pairings: Rory Williams
Warnings: None
Recced because: There's been more than one fic about Rory's two thousand-year-long vigil, but none more gorgeous than this. It's about what it's like to wait, and to learn patience in the waiting. It's about the discovery of the things in life that are really important. It's about Rory. And in the end, it's a love story: a story about Rory's love for Amy, who is waiting for him just as much as he is waiting for her.
Two thousand years didn't seem like much time when you put it that way, really: twenty centuries. Lots of people live for a century. And it wasn't exactly twenty centuries either, was it? Less than that by a bit.
So here he was, just waiting for less than twenty lifetimes. No problem. He'd waited longer for the bus.
So Rory stood taller, stayed at attention, and waited, a stony sentinel against the ravages of time.
An hour later, he was slumped against the Pandorica, amusing himself by making his gun-hand open and close, open and close.
