Author's Summary: The sex is always best after one of them has almost died.

Recced because: I have a weakness for "glad to be alive sex," and this short but scorching fic is about one such encounter between Sarah Jane and Four.

Story: On the Importance of Doing Your Research (Especially Regarding Virgin Sacrifices)
Author: Daystar Searcher
Rating: Teen.  The rating on the pictures in your head will probably be higher, though.
Word Count: 1593
Author's Summary: When selecting someone for virgin sacrifice, you should probably ask them a few questions first. Like, you know, whether or not they’re actually a virgin.
Characters/Pairings: Fourth Doctor/Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: To quote the author: while there is no bdsm or explicit sex "onscreen" (hence the lack of warnings), there are oblique references to bdsm, many sexually suggestive lines, and one sexually graphic line of dialogue. Proceed at your own risk.

Recced because: It made me laugh.

Okay, yeah, I need a more in-depth reason than that, don't I?  Right.  So, there's a fair amount of fiction that reflects on how traveling in the TARDIS would change your viewpoint on things such as danger.  Sarah Jane Smith is an experienced companion, having traveled with two different incarnations of the Doctor.  She has been repeatedly kidnapped, hypnotized, tied up, and menaced by monsters and villains ranging from the terrifying to the ridiculous to the terrifying and ridiculous.

So it makes a hilarious and delicious amount of sense that, upon being kidnapped by a group of rather cut-rate evil cultists, her reaction would be essentially, "Pfft.  I've seen better."  And then they get to the bit about unsullied, pure virgin sacrifice, and . . . basically, if you want to see Sarah Jane get the better of a group of cultists simply by talking, you need to read this.

Story: A Quiet Interlude
Author: spydurwebb
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 3239
Author's Summary: Set during Android Invasion, our heroes have a little bit of downtime.
Characters/Pairings: Fourth Doctor/Sarah Jane Smith, Harry Sullivan
Warnings:

Recced because: [livejournal.com profile] spydurwebb is one of my favourite people in the universe, and the more she writes, the more I think she grows. She's amazing at writing the sometimes flat style in which classic Who was constructed. I watched Android Invasion immediately before reading this, and if it wasn't for the slight mature bit towards the end, it easily could have been inserted towards the end of the serial for the overthinking Doctor and the somewhat clueless Sarah Jane. Harry's always a great sidekick of course. ;)

Excerpt:

His blue eyes pierced her, looking through to her very soul. ‘Are you happy, Sarah?’

'What?’ She sat up straight, the question surprising her. She thought for a moment. ‘Yes, I suppose I am.’ She moved her hand from his shoulder to rest against the back of his head. ‘I’m sitting here safe and secure with my best friend, what’s not to be happy about?’ She felt one of his hands shift from her waist to her lower back. She turned the question back on him, her voice low and hesitant. ‘Are you happy, Doctor?’

‘In this exact moment in time?’ With the hand that wasn’t at her back, he reached up with the back of his index finger and ghosted a line along the edge of her face. Resettling his hand along her hip, he closed his eyes and took another deep breath before whispering. ‘Immeasurably.’

From comedy to dark AU's... one of of the most fun (and disturbing) questions in fanfiction is to ask what might have happened if things went differently for the Doctor and his companions... and here's a decidedly dark turn on one of my favourite Doctor Who stories ever written. I hope you've liked my fic recs and I hope to take up the post again down the line sometime. Til then! :)

Story: Plaything
Author: Daystar Searcher
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 3502 Words
Author's Summary: Pyramids of Mars AU: The Doctor is forced to take Sutekh's offer and save Earth, at the price of the rest of the universe. This is the aftermath.
Characters/Pairings: Four/Sarah, Brigadier, Sutekh.
Warnings: Lotta Angst plus some self-harm, character death and dub con. Hankies at the ready people.

Recced because: Yikes. This is a moving and powerful one-shot which sees Four go through the grinder as he lives with the consequences of saving his favourite world and of course his dear Sarah Jane at the expense of his very people and the billions of worlds he has travelled to before. The Doctor gets decidedly dark in this one but he's still definitely the Fourth Doctor we remember, abeit a haunted one - a tribute to this fine writer. Add one of the most heart-felt Doctor/Sarah moments I've ever read and this is a must for all Fourth Doctor fans.

Story: Scarves and Other Playthings
Author: Kathryne
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 2191
Author's Summary: The Doctor decides to teach Sarah some tricks that might turn out to be useful.
Characters/Pairings: Four/Sarah Jane
Warnings: explicit sex, light bondage

Recced because: One of the best things about getting into a fandom and starting to explore the fanfiction is finding out that there are other people in the world who have thought the same thoughts you have. Thoughts like, “Mmmmm, that Tom Baker sure is fine, isn’t he?” or “That Sarah Jane, she sure gets tied up a lot” or “You know, that scarf sure is awfully long…”
If all those thoughts were mixed together into an alchemical potion, this fic would be the resulting gold. It is everything I have ever wanted when I have heard the words “Four,” “Sarah Jane,” and “scarf” in the same sentence. It is hot, funny, hot, in character, hot, sweetly playful, and hot. Read it. Now. Unless you are at work. That would be a bad idea.

Story: Here Be Dragons!
Author: MinervaFan
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 4665
Author's Summary: In order to get a rare substance for the TARDIS, Harry and Sarah must get married. Too bad the Doctor didn't give them much advance warning.
Characters/Pairings: Sarah/Harry, Sarah/Fourth Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is funny as the Doctor hints at things and fails to tell Sarah and Harry other things. I like the initial idea of Sarah and Harry having to get married in order to get a part for the TARDIS, but what makes this fic stand out is what's happening between Sarah and Harry, and Sarah and the Doctor.

Story: Maybe It's Just North Dakota
Author: MinervaFan
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 509
Author's Summary: On what once was Earth, Sarah and Four spend a quiet moment together contemplating the sunset.
Characters/Pairings: Fourth Doctor/Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: None

Recced because: The Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane watch the sun set over what used to be North Dakota. That's the whole thing, really, but the way it's rendered is absolutely gorgeous. It's nothing but a moment, but that moment is painted with such vivid description and emotional resonance, you can't help but experience it with the characters. And what more could you ask for than the chance to experience a sunset with Four and Sarah Jane?

Story: Scenes from the Domestic Front
Author: ellisbelle
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 727
Author's Summary: The Doctor and Sarah are stranded in WWII era London.
Characters/Pairings: Fourth Doctor/Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is such a unique story in so many ways. It's from the LJ cliché-swap ficathon, where instead of the Tenth Doctor and Martha getting stuck in 1969, the Fourth Doctor and Sarah get stuck in London during WWII. But that's just the outer wrapping. The writing is both sparse and layered, and it doesn't just tell a story, it sets a mood, and immerses the reader in it. Every word seems carefully chosen and every nuance felt. Go give it a try, and let it capture you.

Story: Remnants
Author: katuah
Rating: All Ages
Word count: 2200
Author's Summary: What does the Doctor do when his current Companions are asleep? How does he explain his life to them? Does he think often about the ones who were with him before? What about the things they leave behind in his TARDIS - or in his heart?
Characters/Pairings: Leela, K9, Four/SJS
Warnings: None

Recced because: Leela as a character, and Four/Sarah Jane as a ship, don't get enough attention in my opinion, but here they're both done very well indeed (in particular, Leela's background is used very well, without demeaning her, and the treatment of the ship strikes me as perfect for all Doctor/human stuff). And it makes good use of the TARDIS, which always gets two thumbs up from me.

I managed to miss yesterday, so, since I had the week all planned you get two in a row to make up for that. So I bring you two pieces of Sarah/Doctor smut.

Story:Context
Author: amberite
Rating: Adult
Author's summary: "Oh yes." His voice was a faint moan. "Read me, Sarah Jane." Symbols danced through his skin, under her fingers.
Issue of consent is dealt with, though not as non-con or questionable. Awkwardness. Alien smut. Feminism. Text smut. Human smut. Weird Fourth Doctor brain smut. That all right?
Characters/Pairings: Fourth Doctor Doctor/Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: none
Word Count: 4191

Recced because: The Doctor's thought processes are suitably alien, and yet the smut doesn't seem gratuitous or out of character for either of them. It's too well thought out to be PWP and the whole thing is incredibly hot.

Story: The Road to Hell
Author: kijikun and sakuracorr
Rating: Adult
Author's summary: The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Its also paved with ginger beer, shiny dresses, and misunderstandings.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: none
Word Count: 5928

Recced because: Drunk Doctor is always fun and this story is by turns sad and serious and incredibly absurd. Plus there's Ten in a shiny dress and smut, in that order.

Story: Of Gallifreyan Bondage
Author: nocturnias
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1833
Author's Summary: 4th Doctor and Sarah. A/U. The Doctor learns that he has an unusual reaction to a common earth object. Suggestive silliness ensues.
Characters/Pairings: Four/Sarah
Warnings: None

Recced because: Suggestive sillyness is right. This story manages to be hot and absurd at the same time. Both Doctor and companion are spot on and if I said any more it would spoil the story.

ETA: Now with actual linkage and correct spelling of the authors name. This is what happens when I post right before I go to bed. :/
