Recced because: Space Pirate Mel is a favorite trope of Mel fans. Here livii presents a bit of a darker look at this trope. The Mel presented is still Mel, but she's a bit darker, a bit less carefree. This is a lovely character story of how Mel might have turned out.




She was hard to miss, even in the middle of a crowd.

"Glitz?" she said, laughing, tossing her hair behind her. "Oh, dear old Glitz. Got himself nicked on a moon colony and won't be out for seventy-five; cryogenic storage for criminals, saves on maintenance costs."

"We can't leave her here, can we, Professor?" Ace asked, looking around at the dusty spaceport.

"Always room for one more," the Doctor said, holding the door to the ship open. Mel noticed that his smile didn't meet his eyes.

So, so glad this got recced, because more people really should read it. This is the fic that really made me see the possibilities of Seven/Mel, not to mention Seven/Mel/Ace. Does a fantastic job of not whitewashing anybody.
