Story: Ulysses
Author: Rheanna
Author's Summary: "I have become a name."
Characters/Pairings: John Smith
Warnings: None

Recced because: It's funny; any story that I usually rec, I've read countless times. I've read this twice; once when it was posted and once just now. The reason for this is, quite simply; it broke me.

Set around 40 years after Human Nature/Family of Blood, the Doctor pays John Smith a visit. Yes, you read that right. I love how it focuses on the choices these two people made back at Farringham and how their lives have changed.

There are no warnings from the author, but I'll warn you now; you may need tissues.

Story: Don't Look Now, But Your Ways Have Parted
Author: Red Scharlach
Rating: All Ages
Author's Summary: Rose thinks she has lost her one true love for ever, but then she realizes that they could still be blissfully happy together--if only that stupid Doctor bloke would stop getting in the way.
Characters/Pairings: Rose/Jack/other ("other's" identity is a spoiler), Tenth Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: Good crackfic is a thing of beauty and a joy forever, and this one never fails to make me start laughing right from the opening paragraph. The author bills this as "an affectionate look at the cliches of Ten!Fic," thereby proving the old adage that the best satire has some love and regard for its target, and it's equally funny (IMO) whether you ship Rose and the Doctor or whether you don't. Regarding the mysterious "other," I don't know whether you'd classify that particular relationship as het, slash or something singular, but in the end it really hardly matters.

Story: Five Places the Doctor Never Took Liz Shaw
Author: eponymous_rose
Rating: All Ages
Author's summary: Liz Shaw has always prided herself on her ability to entertain several hypotheses without leaning too heavily one way or the other – blind faith is anathema to her nature.
Characters/Pairings: Liz Shaw, Third Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because:
Probably everyone has at least one companion who they think deserved more trips in the TARDIS than we got to see onscreen, but Liz Shaw's got them all beat; a whole year as companion and, what with the Doctor's exile to Earth, she didn't get a single trip. This story gives her five of them - to the past, to the future, to alien worlds - and looks at how she responds, as a doctor and a scientist, and how it ultimately changes her.
