Story: A Row (Or Two)
Author: vvj5
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1353
Author's Summary: On the usefulness of knitting in an emergency.
Characters/Pairings: Sixth Doctor, Evelyn Smythe
Warnings: None

Recced because: Six and Evelyn are locked in a cell and have a discussion about escaping and knitting (not necessarily in that order). Evelyn is a character from the Big Finish audios, and I have a confession to make: I have never heard a single one of those audios. But not only do I love this fic, it has made me want to go buy BF audios so I can get more Evelyn, and my only worry is whether the Big Finish people can possibly write as wonderfully as vvj5 does in this story. If you're like me and don't know the audios, don't worry, because no background knowledge is needed (and you don't need to know Six, either -- just the Doctor). The dialogue shines, and while I can't vouch for Evelyn's characterization, Six is captured perfectly.

The Doctor paused and folded his arms. “Evelyn, do you not think for one tiny moment that us escaping this cell with our lives is just a smidgeon more important than the progress of your fluffy jumper?”

“I knew I shouldn’t have left the pattern back on the ship,” she reflected. “I should know by now we’re always getting locked up somewhere or other.”

Oh you must 'meet' Evelyn in the 'flesh'! She's absolutely lovely!! (If you want some audio recs for Evelyn, I can offer you some... *she says with mad (and possibly scary) enthusiasm*)

And vvj5 has Evelyn's voice spot on.

I don't wish to sound scary and all that, but now I think I love you!

Seriously, what a nice rec (& from someone whose own stories are just great)! And Evelyn is much more wonderful in the audios. You may as well start with her first and work your way along, but Doctor Who and the Pirates is particularly excellent - and will appeal to someone who likes Gilbert & Sullivan.

Thank you! A great compliment from someone who is such an amazing writer of Six.

Oooh! It's the story that made me fall in love with Evelyn, which is quite a feat considering reading it was also the first time I was even aware she exists! :D

All this I can only lay at the door of Evelyn's inimitable wonderfulness. I wrote this as fast as I've ever written anything as the two of them refused to fit their argument into a drabble!

But, wow, at the compliments here. Gosh.
