Hello and welcome once more to another week of fan fiction picking here on Calufax! I am James or ‘Derek Metaltron’, your guide for the next few days. First off I’d like to apologise for this rather late entry – having opted to do this week I immediately realised it was the one where I’m out of the house every weekday from 9am to 6pm for my placement work – not I admit an unusual practice for everyone but as a student it is for me! Still, shouldn’t be too difficult to stick on some great Recs from as many eras as possible right? And to begin here’s a possible meeting between an old friend and a Doctor coping from loss, not all that long ago… And as always, please leave a kind word in the reviews if you liked it! :)

Story: Fireside
Author: TS Wheaton
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2883 Words
Author's Summary: Devastated after the loss of Donna, the Doctor, soaked from the pouring rain, seeks solace with an old friend, whom he hasn't seen in a very, very long time.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright
Warnings: Maybe a little pinch of Angst but nothing serious.
Recced because: For a number of reasons I love this short story – there’s a reunion with one of the first and best companions in its long history (and I seriously think that Steve should consider contacting the brilliant William Russell whilst he’s still with us) but more than that, it ties directly into the sombre, broken Doctor we’ve got directly after Journey’s End, and there's some of that on Ian's end too. There’s a range of nice subtle references to Ian’s past adventures with the original Doctor and as a change it’s written in a script format, which is a writing style I’ve often considered trying myself. I hope you enjoy it yourselves!

Date: 2013-10-08 09:29 am (UTC)Since studying film @ uni I have preferred writing in script format, and as I had of course originally hoped this may make it into some kind of production (a guy can dream), script definitely felt right.
Apologies for the "Sadsack" account - happy to confirm my ID if you write me @ WhoFic...
