Story: Companionship
Author: JJPOR
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 3511
Author's Summary: Sometimes, you discover that you have more in common with somebody than either of you ever realised.
Characters/Pairings: Adric, Romana II, The Doctor (4th)
Warnings: None
Recced because:
Adric is in this. But really, this is about Romana. This is an introspective fic about her reasons for leaving the Doctor and what she thinks about that. Adric is treated marvelously by JJPOR, who shows him as the sort of young man who doesn't understand why his brilliance doesn't make him loved. She doesn't sugarcoat the character either; Adric's less lovely character traits are on display, but not bashed. And Romana is nothing but class- she's respectful and patient. And ultimately, this is a marvelous moment of, if not bonding, then at least understanding between the two characters
“Were you just talking to yourself?” he asked, with the hint of a smirk.
“Of course not,” she scoffed. “Were you following me?”
“No.” He said it just a touch too defensively; Romana put her hands on her hips and gave him a disapproving glare:
“As I said, sneaking about.” She shook her head at him. “It’ll have to stop, you know. I’ll have a word with the Doctor.”
“And what?” asked Adric, seemingly amused. “Get him to kick me out at the next planet?” Romana gave an exasperated sigh and sat down on one of the stone benches. “You don’t like me very much, do you?” He did not appear unduly put out by the idea.
“Don’t be ridiculous,” she replied, thinking privately that he could be a little annoying at times; quite a lot of times, actually.
