[personal profile] nonelvis posting in [community profile] calufrax
Effective Monday, June 3, [livejournal.com profile] calufrax will be moving to a biweekly (every other week) posting schedule.

As always, I'm really grateful to those of you who have stepped forward to rec fic for this comm. This community depends on people like you to survive. Unfortunately, with LJ slowly going the way of the dinosaur, we no longer have enough volunteers to sustain a weekly schedule. (We have had one volunteer from Tumblr, which was great -- more Tumblr users are welcome, too, what with this comm being cross-posted there.)

If you'd like to rec for [livejournal.com profile] calufrax, we have open slots beginning August 5. Please consider volunteering, bugging your friends about volunteering, hiring skywriters to promote volunteering, etc. You can sign up anytime by leaving a comment on this post.

Thanks.

The nature of the internet is change but I gotta say I'm surprised and unhappy at the loss of LJ and others like it.

Crap for fiction, too, I understand. Well, as long as people want to tell a story or just write about themselves these journals will never really die completely.

I guess the Tumblr people have moved fanfic over to AO3? It's an okay place but I really like the LJ comms.

*sighs*

I haven't even got a Tumblr...And there's no way to discuss or comment properly and I can't imagine reading fic on there... AO3 isn't my favorite place either...

Don't die LJ! :/

I don't have a Tumblr either. I don't really get it. Anyhow, I will soldier on here on LJ for as long as possible :)

This makes me sad. Tumblr and Twitter have taken over and there is just no ability to connect at those sites. Makes me sad that ElJay has also contributed to the great migration away from such fantastic blogging/electronic diary sites. This is home. And home is quickly emptying. *sadface*

I'm hanging onto LJ until they pry it from my cold, dead hands. Or until it shoots itself in the face. I have a dreamwidth account, but LJ is home.

Question: Wouldn't it be better to give each reccer two weeks (either maintaining the maximum of seven recs--or maybe even going up to ten)?

I'm asking because during my recent reccing experience, I found the one rec/day thing really pretty stressful to keep up with, evne though I'd scheduled it for a relatively unbusy week--and I also found it hard to pic only seven fics. Personally, I'd find, "You have two weeks to post between five and ten recs," a much easier condition to fulfill.

This! I definitely had trouble picking my recs. Some of it was trying to maintain a balance and not spam my OTP every day - which raising the ceiling would only affect slightly - but I ended up with a full list of 'backup' recs in case something changed. A longer rec period with a slightly (or commensurately!) longer veiling would work for me.

And hey, I'm a johnny-come-lately to this fandom, and I really appreciated Calufrax when I was hunting for fic - 's why I volunteered to rec; I wanted to give something back. If it worked on me, maybe it'll work on others like me.

Well, yes, but if I could only do seven maximum, I at least wanted to take all of those opportunities. :)

Having 5-10 recs spread out over 14 days would give us the occasional day off even if we want to do all the recs, and it'd also make it less crowded for readers. I really think you'd get more people singing up that way, and it'd still result in more recs than having 4-7 every other week.

Sorry, I don't mean to talk your ear off, I just really believe very strongly that that'd be the better solution.
