Recced because: This is so in-character it almost hurts; every word could be coming straight from my favourite of the audios. It's quiet and subtle and gorgeous: there's a war on, and no one is left unscathed, but through the grimness and devastation and blood and horror, there's a little bit of hope. From field triage to plastic surgery on Barbie dolls to a heart-breakingly just-about-shippy conclusion, with spot-on dialogue and an amazing sense of time and place in between, this made my heart sing.

‘Then how come I can’t see?’

‘Because it’s dark in here?’ The rolling of eyes was not audible, but the girl’s tone of voice expressed it all the same.

There was an awkward silence.

‘So...I’m not blind?’

‘Nah. You do have some exciting holes in your leg, though. You went all grey and a bit boring for a bit, but I think you’re all right now. I patched you up.’

‘You did? Playing Doctor, are we? I thought taking things apart was more your style, not putting them back together.’

‘Usually I’d leave the Florence Nightingale stuff to you. You know, bed-making, sewing, prannying about in a little lacy hat...’

‘Yeah, yeah, and stockings and suspenders under me scrubs, right? Give it up, I’ve heard every male nurse joke going. Besides, you were doing a pretty good job triaging those poor fellas back at the field hospital.’
