Hello, I happy to be your reccer for the next seven days. You will see through my choices I love variety. I am game for anyone in a pairing with the doctor as long as it is well written and believable. You never know what you like till you try it. I hope for the next seven days my selections seem very interesting and that you might find a new favorite among them. All my posts will happen around the same time as this one.I don’t get much of a chance to use the internet until around this time perhaps a little later. Enjoy.

Story: Doctor Who and the Great Eclipse
Author: GM_Andy
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 214254
Author's Summary: The Time War left him shattered and alone. Experiments left her shattered with voices in her head. Survival threw them together. You aren't scared of the dark, are you? Before he met Rose - he had to live through this. 9th Doctor, River and Simon Tam, The survivors of the Hunter-Gratzner (special guest star: 8th Doctor, selected flashbacks). Slashy elements, pre-slash really. A Doctor Who-Firefly-Pitch Black crossover
Characters/Pairings: The Doctor (9th), The Doctor (8th), Richard B. Riddick, Richard B. Riddick/The Doctor (9th), Other Character(s)
Warnings: Explicit Violence, Swearing

Recced because:
It crosses 2 of my favorite shows and 1of my favorite movies. This is the second in a series called the Soul Web I skipped the first part of the series because I found it interesting I liked the crossovers of this series better. I like it because it is very well written, stays close to the Pitch Black plot, and a very interesting portrayal of The Doctor , the Time Lords and of the Time War. There are two sequels one completed and one that is a WIP that has no made it from FFN to Teaspoon. The Teaspoon site the one that are revised and has parts that require an adult rating that is not allowed on FFN.

Story: What Never Should Be
Author: blucougar57
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 165,325
Author's Summary: What might have happened if Jack had refused to join Torchwood in 1899?
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Ianto Jones
Warnings: N/A

Recced because: I love the good AU's and this is one of them. I found this story compelling because of the nature of the psychological damage Jack suffers in it, the relationship that begins to grow between Jack and Ianto as Jack begins to heal (it does eventually become Jack/Ianto), and how the canon characters respond to the two of them and to Torchwood's actions. I also like that the Doctor has to face up to and deal with the consequences of leaving Jack behind on the Game Station; I have never liked how that played out in canon.

It's a good "What if this happened instead of what did?" story.

Story: Shades of Ianto
Author: sarcasticchick
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 34,165
Author's Summary: Ianto is more than just a teaboy.
Characters/Pairings: Ianto Jones, Jack/Ianto
Warnings: Muddled/dubious consent in chapter 4.

Recced because: This is an alternative view of Ianto Jones: his family, his heritage, his past and his abilities. It was written before Doctor Who Season 3 and Torchwood Season 2, so the information we discover from those wasn't available. I was, quite frankly, shocked that it hadn't already been recced.

In general, although there are exceptions other than this story, I don't enjoy Ianto protrayed as anything but a standard human with, at best, a middle class background. It is his humanity that I enjoy most about the character.

Shades of Ianto, however, although there's quite a bit of exceptional in both his background and heritage, keeps him "human"; he's still just a man in exceptional circumstances. He's not immortal, not overly powerful; he struggles with dealing with Canary Wharf, with Lisa, with Torchwood, with Jack. And it's those struggles that make the story.

I first read this story elsewhere, in which it was formatted as one long story. Here on Teaspoon, it's formatted as three; I've linked to the first "Prologue". There are two "Seasons" after that, but it is designed to be read as one story. The whole story is over 200,000 words.

Story: A Very Original Sin
Author: x_los
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 6,797
Author's Summary: “Just my friendly pet goosnake. He makes a much better companion than a cat: just as independent, sheds less hair, and he's very hypoallergenic.” After the TVM, Eight acquires an unorthodox companion.
Characters/Pairings: Eight, goosnake!Master, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart
Warnings: Explicit Sex

Recced because: I know x_los was last recced less than a week ago, so forgive me, but I would have been sad not to recommend this one. Where last week's rec was based around a clichéd premise, this is an 'original' one i.e. what would happen if after the TVM the Doctor had travelled with the ridiculous CGI gooey snake version of the Master (not dead - but of course) for a bit? Crack yes, but no more than 'canon' gave us, and oh what glorious crack it is. One of the things I like best about my OTP is the dialogue - but if the Master's a snake, he doesn't have any (not much, anyway) - fortunately Eight is a Doctor who can keep up his end of the conversation. Another thing, then, then I like about Doctor/Master is that it is a ship that spans the pretty ones and the not as pretty as Paul McGann ones. Goosnake fic should be ridiculous, but actually it's just business as usual because the Doctor is the Doctor, and the Master is the Master even if he's a snake made out of bad 90s CGI, and that's shown very well here. Also it's silly, and very funny, and very sweet.

So okay, sorry about the delay. On to the rec!

Everything that [info]x_los has ever written is brilliant. EVERYTHING. But of course, some brilliant fics are more brilliant than others, and one of those extra-brilliant fics is The Crane Wife. If you like slave!fic, you will like this story. If you don't like slave!fic, you will probably like this story anyway.

Story:The Crane Wife
Author: x_los
Rating:  Adult
Word Count: 46282
Author's Summary: The Doctor, a half-human renegade Time Lord who's never so much as set foot on his father's home world, has had a really rotten day. As if dying weren't bad enough, now he's facing the auction block. The renegade Time Lord Emperor of Hestin makes an ill-starred impulse buy.
Characters/Pairings: AU Fifth Doctor / Ainley!Master.
Warnings: It's a WIP, but only has the last chapter to go. Also explicit sex involving domination and a few consent issues.

Recced because: One of my favorite genres of fic is the cliche-done-right. The one that makes you realize why a subject is cliche in the first place: because it's awesome. This story is sweet, and adorable, and really funny. The Doctor and the Master, despite being alternate-universe counterparts, come off pitch-perfect. The descriptions are wonderful, the plot's engaging and well-paced, and the sex is really, really hot. What more could you ask for, other than the final chapter?

Story: Sohcahtoa
Author: Petra LeMaitre
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 7127
Author's Summary: One of the first truths the Doctor had tried to instill in her, and in so many of his travelling companions, was that it was never too late to run.
Characters/Pairings: Nine/Jack/Rose
Warnings: Explicit sex

Recced because: I couldn't go through this week without reccing a fic about my OT3. This fic is a hidden gem for this 'ship, and I'd recommend it even to those who don't ship them, because it is above all a fascinating foray into the Ninth Doctor's mind. Petra LeMaitre gives us a very interesting perspective on how Time Lords perceive the world. The banter between these three is also adorable enough to warm any heart.

Story: Temporary
Author: Weatherwax
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 32259
Author's Summary: A dark little Donna fix-it.
Characters/Pairings: Eleventh Doctor, Donna Noble
Warnings: Explicit Violence, Swearing

Recced because:

Technically this story isn’t finished yet, but the main plotline is resolved and is lacking only an epilogue. So I feel okay reccing it, because it really REALLY does deserve the mention.

This is an AU take on the Tenth Doctor’s regeneration written before the End of Time. It is dark and visceral and terrifying (do NOT read this if you are squeamish) but it is also just a bit magical as Weatherwax brings Ten’s story full circle in the deepest volcanic bowels of a Sycorax ship, followed by Eleven, a study in contrasts, trying desperately to set things right before he passes out. His interactions with Donna range from hysterical to heartbreaking and this story is worth reading for their dialogue alone.

It’s also worth reading, especially right now, because it shows how the show always goes on, how the Doctor’s character changes, profoundly sometimes, but the essential formula stays the same. Never mind that these things never happened – never will happen – it’s still one a hell of a ride.

Story: Back Home
Author: Van Donovan
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 14,923 (six chapters, each averaging at about 2,500 words)
Author's Summary: Turlough returns to Earth, not entirely of his own volition, and finds that while some things have changed, some are exactly the same.
Characters/Pairings: Turlough/Tegan, Turlough/Owen, Turlough/Various others/implied, Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Toshiko Sato
Warnings: Explicit sex, swearing
Note: (this is taken from the A/N at the beginning of the first chapter) Helps to be familiar with Turlough's run on Doctor Who, or at least his intro triology/exit serial. Basic Torchwood knowledge helpful, but not required. Set in the three month glossed-over gap in Torchwood, somewhere probably late 2007, early 2008.

Recced because: The author managed to capture Turlough's personality perfectly and in such a subtle way that it's hard to pinpoint exactly what makes the characterization so perfect. The descriptions of things Turlough smells and feels are so detailed that it's hard to not imagine you're standing right there alongside him. And the intimate moments, while not as explicit as the warning implies, focus more on the emotions between the characters and not the physicality. Overall, a beautiful story that leaves you wanting more by the time you've finished the last chapter.

Story: Betrayal
Author: edzel2
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 5294
Author's Summary: Part One of my series, The Master Chronicles. This is Lucy's story, told through her eyes from when she first meets Harold Saxon to her final act of betrayal on board the Valiant.
Characters/Pairings:Lucy/SimmMaster
Warnings: Explicit Sex, Explicit Violence, Swearing

Recced because: This story is a bit more adult than many I've seen recced here but the ticklish subject matter is handled with a maturity and grace that speaks volumes. The eloquent words seem to pull you right into the brain of a young woman called Lucy and you can watch as horrified as she, herself, is as her world falls down. The author manages to rise above your insipid I-used-to-be-evil-but-the-Doctor-came-and-I-got-better portrayal f Lucy and shows instead a girl as human as you and I and as easily relate-able.

Author: [livejournal.com profile] nonelvis
Rating: Adult
Word count: 344
Author's summary: Prompt: Nine/Jabe, gardening.
Characters/Pairings: Nine/Jabe
Warnings: Semi-explicit treesex.

Recced because: An utterly amazing exploration of one of my favourite pairings involving a one-off-character from new school. The imagery is brilliant, and it's shot through with a wistful sadness mixed with a strange sort of optimism that's absolutely lovely. (I have to confess to a slight bias here: this was written for a prompt I left on the kink meme.)

Story: Moving In
Author: Calico
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 6,850
Author's Summary: Ianto's first day at work. AKA, Oblivious Jack is oblivious!
Characters/Pairings: Jack/Ianto
Warnings: Swearing, explicit sex, extremely complicated consent issues

Recced because: It's dead smack in the middle of yet another work-week; let's have some porn.

This fic isn't porn from beginning to end, though. It's porn nearly from beginning to end that manages to be one of the most brilliant Torchwood character studies I've read. Amazingly crafted, Moving In plays on everything we already know, rather than secrets the author holds, to deliver killer punchlines on so many levels at once. Darkly, bitterly funny, chilling, and hot all at once.

This fic seems to be well-known within TW fandom already; since I was clueless as to its existence until I stumbled on a rec somewhere not long ago, though, I wanted to share.

Story: No Rest for the Wicked
Author: AND ([livejournal.com profile] neadods)
Rating: Adult
Author's summary: The Doctor, suicidal after the Time War, meets a younger, more innocent self - and decides to rewrite history.
Characters/Pairings: Evelyn Smythe, Six/Nine
Warnings: Explicit Sex
Word Count: 1523

Recced because: I really enjoy glimpses of the ninth Doctor pre-Rose because it allows for a much darker and often more dangerous Doctor than we see in the TV series. AND's Nine is written well in this dark mood, while the sixth Doctor, often written as cruel, is believably innocent. While there is sex in this fic (and yes, you did read that Six/Nine tag correctly) it's really secondary to the exploration of the Doctor's post-Time War guilt.
[identity profile] cosmic-celery.livejournal.com
Hello, everyone! I'm [livejournal.com profile] cosmic_celery (NotOnBoats on Teaspoon) and I'll be reccing a mixed bag of fic this week. I hope everyone finds something that they like!

Lets start off the week with a bit of good ol' fashioned crack.

Story: Doctors’ Night Out or a Whole Bucket Full of Crazy
Author: finmagik
Rating: Adult
Author's summary: The various incarnations of the Doctors' meet up for a night on the town, in the village on Christopher street.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Evelyn Smythe, Romana II, Vislor Turlough, Four, Five, Six, Eight, Ten, Four/Six
Warnings: Swearing
Word Count: 3,700 with both chapters

Recced because: The crack. Oh the glorious, incomparable crack. This has to be my favorite in the "a bunch of Doctors meet, hijinks ensue" genre, and every time I come back to it it's still funny. Much to Finmajik's credit, she uses the stereotypes for each Doctor to hilarious effect, but also manages to add a smidgen of believability to the whole drunken affair.

I've been trying to avoid reccing ongoing WIPs because I know many like to read completed stories. However the authors of this story updated this one today, so I just had to include it in the rec list.

Story: Never Quite Normal
Author: Pairadox Timeline
Rating: Adult/R
Word Count: 57,480; currently at 26 chapters
Author's Summary: He can't abide his face in the mirror or the memory of what he has done. The silence has made him insane and the insanity has made him dangerous. At the end of the Time War, the Doctor takes drastic steps, with the help of friends old and new. Nine AU.
Characters/Pairings: Nine/Rose, Brigadier Alistair Lethbridge Stewart/Doris Stewart, Harry Sullivan, John Benton, Jackie Tyler, Mickey Smith
Warnings: Adult language, some violence, issues of alcohol abuse.

Recced because: The authors take a broken and dmanaged post - Time War Nine, and spins a brilliant AU based on making a drastic path with his life. The bonds between himself and Classic Who characters, the Brigadier, Benton, and Harry Sullivan are lovingly evident and his meeting with Rose and the development of their relationship is painfully poignant. Both Classic and New Who fans will find unique gems to enjoy about this story and it's overall tale of pain, loss, and trying to put oneself back together again.
juliet316: Made for me by < lj user= alizarin-skies> as a result of bidding on her for the Support Stacie auction. Not shareable (DW: Ten: Tear)

I'm going to take us to angst tonight. I'm kind of in a foul mood and this story always fits the bill for me.

Story: Never Enough Time (Formerly "Time Heals")
Author: CorellianBlue
Rating: Adult/R
Word Count: 14850 spread over five chapters.
Author's Summary: Rose is gone. Without her, the Doctor is lost and uncertain he has the strength, or desire, to struggle through grief again.
Characters/Pairings: Ten, TARDIS, Sarah Jane Ten/Rose implied
Warnings: Attempted suicide.

Recced because: Suicide I realize isn't everybody's cup of tea, but this story really shows how one could be lead to attempt it, and the consequences of such an act. It takes the Doctor, post - Doomsday, to his lowest point and with some help, puts him on some semblance of okay again without Rose. It's often one of the things I'll read when I'm in a really angsty mood (like tonight).

I'll try for something somewhat happier tomorrow :-)

Story: Roman Holiday
Author: yesjamie
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 1346
Author's Summary: Ian and Barbara, alone together in the Roman villa.
Characters/Pairings: Ian/Barbara, First Doctor, Vicki
Warnings: Explicit sex.

Recced because: This is a kinkmeme story, which of course means that it's smutty. However, the porn - while lovely in its own right - is made even lovelier by Barbara and Ian being in character and Barbara getting her History on. Admit it, you all think they got it on in the Roman villa!

Word count: 1131
Author's summary: Jamie and the Doctor enjoy themselves quite near a lot of UNIT personnel. Set during The Invasion.
Characters/Pairings: Two/Jamie, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Sergeant Benton
Warnings: Explicit Sex

Recced because: It's short and sweet (and hot), but what I like most about this fic is the way that it nails the mischievousness of Two's characterisation and applies it to his sex life with Jamie. The Brig and Benton's little bits that top and tail it work very nicely too.

Story: Striking Roots
Author: DameRuth
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 4514
Author's Summary: After the Doctor suffers a terrible shock in the Flowers!verse, it's up to Rose and Jack to comfort him and each other.
Characters/Pairings: Nine/Rose/Jack (in a fashion)
Warnings: Sex, angst

Recced because: This is part of DameRuth's very original and creative Flowers series. The basic premise is that though the Doctor loves Rose deeply, there are way too many biological barriers--physical and chemical--for them to become lovers. Thus, Jack becomes Rose's lover, not just because he loves her himself, but as the Doctor's surrogate. I recommend the whole series for its creativity and sense of melancholy. (Later in the series, Jack, being Jack, finds a way around the biological barriers, but by then, Rose is gone. Thus, Jack and Ten become lovers.)

Anyway, to the story: Our trio come across the horrifying aftermath of a fobwatched Time Lord gone terribly wrong. The Time Lord (unnamed) is long dead, and the fobwatch itself, containing the Time Lord's essence, has become a lethal object of temptation to anyone who finds it. Its discovery sends the Doctor into an emotional tailspin. Jack and Rose can take comfort in each other, but they can't offer the same to him--or can they? The story is told in gorgeous language, the bittersweet dynamic amongst the three of them laid bare as comfort is sought and given.

Story: Sooner or Later
Author: Fantastik1973
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 2540
Author's Summary: Nine/Rose. Just after his regeneration, the Ninth Doctor gets some advice from an old friend.
Characters/Pairings: Nine/Rose, the Brig
Warnings: Semi-graphic sex

Recced because: I have a weakness for Nine just-after-the-Time-War fics, especially when he runs into someone who helps him. In this case, he lands right on the Brig's doorstep, quite literally. Scenes of this raw-and-wounded Doctor as the Brig and wife help him out via a place to rest, food and some hard-earned advice are intercut with beautiful, tasteful scenes of the Doctor and Rose making love. If you're not interested in the sex, you can skip over it in favor of some truly lovely interaction between the Doctor and the Brig. If you don't know the Brig, you can still enjoy the story. This is one of my long-time favorites that I come back to over and over. Enjoy!

This is my final rec for the week. Thank you so much for having me and I hope that you enjoyed at least some of the stories I posted about. :)

Story: Opportunity
Author: nonelvis/[livejournal.com profile] nonelvis
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 1854
Author's Summary: Reinette is accustomed to seizing opportunity, and the Doctor is opportunity waiting to be grasped.
Characters/Pairings: Ten/Reinette
Warnings: Sexual situations, Light BDSM/Kink (D/s)

Recced because: This is one of the first smut!fics I ever read in fandom and I still think it is one of the hottest things that I've ever read. In this fic, [livejournal.com profile] nonelvis gives us a highly erotic interlude between a dominant!Reinette and somewhat submissive!Tenth Doctor. And while this fic may be categorized as a 'PWP', there is actually a plot there, lingering in the background, skillfully and subtly intertwined with the more sexual elements of the story. In fact, I actually think this fic is an excellent character study of both the Doctor and Reinette and an enticing look at the dynamics of their relationship with one another. There is a powerful, yet somewhat tragic story packed within this little gem, but also some gorgeous, sexy smut that never seems to lose its titillating spark after multiple rereads.

Story: Crossing Parallels
Author: Persiflage/[livejournal.com profile] persiflage_1
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 11,542
Author's Summary: Investigating a potential alien invasion, Martha meets a stranger with a very familiar face.
Characters/Pairings: Martha Jones, Luther Arkwright, Torchwood, UNIT
Warnings: Sex

Recced because: I'll admit up front that Luther Arkwright is by far one of my favorite fictional characters and this fic, in many ways, is personal wish-fulfillment. As he is a polyamorous, telepathic, Tantrist, multiverse-traveler, the idea of Arkwright slipping into the world of Doctor Who makes so much sense to me as a crossover and, in this story by [livejournal.com profile] persiflage_1, that is exactly what happens. Helping to fill the unfortunate dearth of Arkwright fanfic, she brings us a tale where Luther crosses paths with UNIT MO Martha Jones and assists both her and UNIT during an attempted alien invasion. As Martha comes to terms with this strange gentleman who looks much like a white-haired version of the Tenth Doctor*, she soon learns that he is a rather different man in many ways and also, along the way, she learns a lot about herself, leaving her more empowered than ever before. I feel that [livejournal.com profile] persiflage_1 nicely balances both the adventure and romantic elements of the plot, all the while spotlighting these two exciting characters and leaving us with an intriguing crossover.

* David Tennant voiced Arkwright in the Big Finish audio play, 'The Adventures of Luther Arkwright' (also highly recommended)

Story: I'll Meet You on the Other Side
Author: fourzoas/[livejournal.com profile] fourzoas
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 60,290
Author's Summary: The alt!Doctor meets the alt!Martha Jones and copes with the realities of aging. They have adventures.
Characters/Pairings: 10.5/alt!Martha Jones, alongside alt!Jack Harkness, alt!Ianto Jones, Jackie Tyler, alt!Pete Tyler, alt!Sarah Jane Smith, alt!Tish Jones, and other characters.
Warnings: Sex

Recced because: Handy (10.5/The Duplicate Tenth Doctor) is definitely a character that I personally find very intriguing. With bits of the Doctor mixed with bits of Donna inside his head, he comes out an entirely new person and, it is in his self-reflection, we can learn more about what makes him tick as a character and what it means to be the person he is. Obviously, most post-'Journey's End' fic with him focuses on his relationship with Rose in the alt!verse, but what if things didn't work out between them? Where would his life go afterward? Would he seek out the alt!versions of other companions of the Doctor? Or would he always be alone -- always a stranger in a strange land? Would he work for UNIT or Torchwood or somewhere else entirely? And what would happen if by chance he ran into an alt!Martha Jones and they fell in love?

[livejournal.com profile] fourzoas is most definitely one of my favorite writers in fandom and this story -- her first Doctor Who fanfic, I believe -- is definitely one of my favorite fics. I love how she weaves the tale of a budding friendship and romance between Handy and alt!Martha with a page-turning, cracking action-adventure story of intrigue. At 60,290 words, the story is admittedly a bit epic, but perhaps over the weekend, you might find yourself on your couch, sipping some tea, and wanting to simply curl up with a nice story. I highly recommend this fic for that bit of relaxation.

Story: All's Fair
Author: Lurky McLurklurk/[livejournal.com profile] ionlylurkhere
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 2521
Author's Summary: Martha and the Doctor, years down the line. Things are more complicated than they once were, but that's not a bad thing.
Characters/Pairings: Tom/Martha, Ten/Martha
Warnings: Sex

Recced because: Being a polyamorous woman myself, I must admit up front that I love (and have a bit of a bias for) reading about mature open relationships between consenting adult characters. Sadly, that's often not the norm in many portrayals of relationships in fic, but in this wonderful story by [livejournal.com profile] ionlylurkhere*, it is definitely a case of Responsible Nonmonogamy done right. In many ways this story is about Ten and Martha, as they are somewhat the focus of the narrative, but to me, at the heart of the story, is the relationship between Tom and Martha (which is why I listed their pairing first). [livejournal.com profile] ionlylurkhere shows us the beautiful trust of the foundation/primary relationship of Tom/Martha, through the scope of a very sweet and fluffy date she has with the Ten. She quite adeptly and skillfully entwines both romantic relationships in Martha's life without giving too much favor to either, but showing instead how they organically feed off one another. As a bonus, there's some lovely smut thrown in, but I love the sweetness of the deep love and trust most of all. And perhaps Humphrey, the cuddly toy -- I love him lots as well.

[*Yes, she was just recced yesterday, but I had this all typed up and ready to go, so I went ahead and posted it today. I can't help that she just rocks!]

Hello everyone, my name is [livejournal.com profile] radiantbaby and I will be reccing this week here on [livejournal.com profile] calufrax.

I've been a fan of Doctor Who since I began watching it in the 80s on the local/Georgia PBS station, but it honestly wasn't until S3 of New Who that I really got heavily into fandom.

This week I will be reccing a mixed bag of primarily New Who-oriented fics that are mostly shippy in nature, but also some gen fic as well.

This is my first time reccing here, so I am both nervous and excited for this opportunity. I hope you will enjoy these stories as much as I do!

Story: A Planet Near Arcturus
Author: nostalgia/[livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 1060
Author's Summary: He's not keeping this one. Really. No, honest. (Ten/Martha)
Characters/Pairings: Ten/Martha
Warnings: Sex, Swearing

Recced because: This short ficlet was one of the first fanfics I read when I immersed myself in fandom and, honestly, it is probably the one that made the biggest impression on me and my ideas about the Ten/Martha relationship. I think this fic is an excellent portrait of the dysfunctional nature of this pairing and how much the Doctor holds back, even when -- in my opinion -- he doesn't want to. I love the way [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj renders the Doctor's inner monologue and self-effacing introspection. This Doctor is a bit broken and he knows it, but as he says in the beginning: the universe "owes him something fun and uncomplicated that doesn't end in tears".

Author: Lithrael
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 8189
Author's Summary: Peri and Erimem rope the Doctor into a little fun..
Characters/Pairings: Five/Peri/Erimem

Author's Summary: Ace and the Doctor have a go together. Written under pain of disinheritance and expulsion from Nireville; takes place after "Remembrance of the Daleks."
Characters/Pairings: Ace/Seven
Warnings: None

Recced because:  I feel a little nervous reccing this.  Not because it isn't good.  It IS good, very good indeed.  It is just that it is Ace/Seven smut, which is very hard to come by, and when you do find it, rarely it is as good as this.  Which is why I am reccing it.  The characterisations are good, and the smut is believable, which is no easy task when writing Seven/Ace.  In my opinion, kudos to kiwimouse for acheiving that.

Author's Summary: There is a little-known Welsh saying: "Never judge a man until you've spent a week in his pants." Captain Jack Harkness is that man. These are his pants.
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Owen Harper, Rhys Williams, Toshiko Sato
Warnings: Cracky sex

Recced because: Some Friday LOLs, of course! This fabulous parody shows a week of Torchwood's zany ineptitude, sexy shenanigans, and some of the silliest aliens ever. This had me laughing out loud even on the nth reread.

Story:  The Manly Art
Author:  MeiLin
Rating:  Mostly all ages, but one is adult
Word Count: 606-3701
Author's Summary: The collected adventures of knitting!Jack, which aren't as ridiculous as they sound. ;) Dedicated to the Who Knits community on Ravelry.
Characters: Mostly Torchwood
Warnings: One story does have explicit sex.

MeiLin's series is a set of short stories about Jack, who knits.  These came about from a discussion on the Who Knits group on Ravelry about which character would be most likely to knit.  I really love the idea that Jack knits, and it fits with the time periods he's lived through.

Story: Synchronicity
Author: Joan Milligan
Rating: Adult.
Word Count: 1526
Author's Summary: The Doctor, Romana, time and smut. That's all.
Characters/Pairings: Four/Romana II
Warnings: Smut, PWP.

Recced because: First of all, I'm terribly sorry about reccing two Four/Romana II tiemsex stores this week. You gracious mods may scold me if you want. However, I just found out that this story had not yet been recced on this fine community and I simply had to recitify this. There is Time. There is smut. There is love. And Rassilon saw it and it was good. Honestly, it's gorgeous stuff.

Story: A Learning Experience
Author: [livejournal.com profile] rivendellrose
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 2862
Author's Summary: Romana accidentally lets slip a secret she’s been keeping from the Doctor, and he doesn’t take it very well. Fortunately, Romana knows how to get their relationship back on track.
Characters/Pairings: Four/Romana II
Warnings: Explicit sex

Recced because: I've read this fic several times and it never fails to make me smile. It's a good-natured take on the half-a-millenia age-difference between the Doctor and Romana. The Doctor's flustering, the discussion about ''underage'' partners and Romana's ability to turn the tables on the Doctor are a delight. Plus, there's a nice bit of smut at the end.

Story: After the Kissing
Author: the eighth doctors girl
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 3050
Author's Summary: Charley wants something more than kisses from the Doctor.
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor/Charley.
Warnings: Explicit Sex

Recced because: No reccing week would be complete without a bit of porn. After the Kissing is incredably sweet and very well written. Charley's enthusiasm and naivety and the Eighth Doctor's caring nature are captured perfectly. A good mix of porn and fluff!

Hi there, I'm Miss Winterhill (Winterhill on Teaspoon) and I'm helping with the recs this week. I'll be reccing some Torchwood and some Seventh Doctor era stuff across the week. I thought I'd start with something a little strange and more than a little sexy from the Torchwood section!

Story: Stranded

Author: ceefax_the_sane

Rating: Adult

Word Count: 9051

Author's Summary: AU. It's Ianto's first time. For a threesome with Jack and an alien, that is.

Characters/Pairings: Ianto Jones/Jack Harkness/OC Alien

Warnings:Explicit Sex

Recced because: ceefax_the_sane writes the most brilliantly imagined AUs, pulling us sharply away from the everyday. Jack and Ianto are stranded on an alien planet in this fic and ceefax_the_sane shows us that just because you're out of your space and time doesn't mean that you can forsake the world of work, office romances, learning the language, sex (quite a bit of sex, the explicit sex warning isn't just there for kicks!) and going out to the pub to celebrate little milestones.

Jack is in his element in this fic; all-knowing, sexy and adaptable. ceefax_the_sane has created a gorgeous OC in Ianto's tentacled co-worker Nir, a shy Sulamid with a crush on the exotically human Ianto; an OC who lives in a world that I found had a surprising sense of verisimilitude (surprising given that I've never actually seen an alien planet...) Give it a go! You might like it.

This is my final rec for the week, so I'd like to thank [livejournal.com profile] calapine, first, for allowing me to come back and share some more of my favourites with you all, and [livejournal.com profile] isiscaughey for her own recs this week. It's been a pleasure, and I hope that you've found at least one story this week that you've enjoyed.

Story: Pages from a Broken Book series - 14 separate single-part stories
Author: Azriona
Rated: Most individual stories rated All Ages; one rated Adult, one rated Teen
Word count: 26501 (most individual chapters between 1000-3000 words)
Author’s summary: He thinks of life as a book, every page a different story. His life, as he once knew it, is broken; these are the pages therein. Told from 10.5's POV.
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler, The Doctor (Duplicate 10th)
Warnings: None

Reason for Recommendation:
This, like The Devil You Know, is a post-Journey’s End story that sticks in my brain, because it makes me think. Fluffy, happy endings for the Duplicate Doctor and Rose are ten a penny. Stories where they have to work for their eventual happy ending are fewer, but still fairly plentiful. Stories where the author actually gets inside the Duplicate Doctor’s head to show us why this is practically a nightmare scenario for him, and not at all one where a kiss and a smile from Rose can make it all better, are very rare indeed. This one’s the best by far.

The Duplicate Doctor is half-human, which means he is also half-Time Lord. He’s been torn away from the only life he’s ever known, and from his constant companion, the TARDIS. Yes, he’s got Rose, but that’s not straightforward either because she’s still working out who he is to her compared with the original Doctor. This Doctor has no idea who he is; the only way he can define himself is that he’s not him, the original Doctor. He’s tied to one place and time, without even the final remnant of his own race and planet, and he’s suddenly genetically altered. [livejournal.com profile] azriona doesn’t make light of the Doctor’s adjustment trauma, or the way he’s trying the patience of those around him and, while he does eventually find his measure of peace with the life he’s been abandoned to, this story still makes my heart ache for him.

Story: Visiting Alien
Author: Entilzha
Rated: Says All Ages on the site, but I’d say Adult
Word count: 11980
Author’s summary: 20 years after Doomsday and Rose has a life of her own. Then a familiar noise fills the park.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Rose Tyler
Warnings: None

Reason for Recommendation: Yes, this is a post-Doomsday Doctor/Rose reunion fic (AU from the end of S2), but - like my recommendation of The Devil You Know a few days ago - it’s no ordinary reunion fic. For one thing, Rose is twenty years older, and many more years wiser (she even has a PhD, in psychology). She’s competent, capable, doing a very efficient job for Torchwood, and the last thing she expects, or almost even wants, is her ex-lover, the Doctor, to turn up out of the blue looking for her. She’s certainly not the Rose Tyler the Doctor was expecting, and even though she’s perfectly happy to shag him she’s equally prepared to be brutally honest about his fear of commitment. Entilzha, as a psychologist herself, handles this aspect of the story very well indeed: while the Doctor’s character flaws are exposed, there’s no character assassination; it’s clear that both Rose and Entilzha love the Doctor. There’s also humour, and of course the smut’s not half bad!

[identity profile] wendymr.livejournal.com
Yesterday, completely coincidentally, [livejournal.com profile] isiscaughey and I both recced short but meaningful ficlets. Today, she's recced a crackfic, so I'm going for a complete contrast: dark-ish, twisty, plotty fic (with a bit of ship).

Story: The Devil You Know
Author: Rosa_acicularis / [livejournal.com profile] rosa_acicularis
Rating: Adult
Word count: 13516
Author’s summary: Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. The question is: how do you know the difference? Rose and the Doctor after Journey's End.
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler, The Doctor (Duplicate 10th)
Warnings: Explicit Sex, Explicit Violence, Swearing

Reason for Recommendation: Journey’s End, and in particular the creation of the Duplicate Doctor, has spawned a thousand fics. Amid all of them, this one stands out. Why? Well, partly because it’s so very well-written; if you’ve never read Rosa_acicularis’s work before, this won’t be a surprise to you, and if you haven’t, what are you waiting for? Second, it stands out because of the clever, brilliant plot: fascinating, gripping, roller-coaster what the hell is happening here? I won’t give any of it away - including a certain guest character who I hope will take readers by surprise - because, seriously, this story must be read without spoilers. Suffice to say that I was gripped from the first three lines, and she kept me breathless throughout. Even if you’re not a Ten/Rose fan, I almost guarantee that you’ll enjoy this story.

First few lines below the cut, just in case you need any further inducement: )

I missed yesterday, so here's my seventh and final rec for the week. Thanks for reading!

Story: My Body Is A Cage
Author: threerings
Rating: Lacks a rating on Teaspoon, but I'd certainly call it adult.
Word Count: 2486
Author's Summary:"Rose gave another long-suffering sigh. Trust the Doctor to bring her to a world where the air was an aphrodisiac. To her, at least, though apparently not to him."
Characters/Pairings: Ten and Rose.
Warnings: Dark, graphic sex. Questionable consent.

Recced because: It's a sex pollen fic where Rose is affected and the Doctor tries not to do anything inappropriate. For a change, this story acknowledges the inherent creepiness of that kind of setup -- and that there's more than one solution to the problem. It's dark, and there's no lightening of the mood even at the ending, but I'm fond of it for being an unusual take on an overused fanfic trope.
platypus: (TARDIS - pink)

Story: Something Blue
Author: Nostalgia
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 1432
Author's Summary: Ten/Martha/TARDIS - "Oh, come on, it's not like you haven't thought about it."
Characters/Pairings: Ten/Martha/TARDIS, as promised.
Warnings: Graphic sex.

Recced because: I didn't really mean to do two Doctor/TARDIS recs in one week, but I ran across this story in my bookmarks and remembered how much I liked it. Nostalgia has a gift for funny dialogue, and the console-room sex (with TARDIS as participant, or at least presence) is both hot and appropriately alien.

Story: Time is not a Straight Line
Author: Lillibet
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 21536
Author's Summary: He was the Doctor. He never went back, never asked a second time. But times change. Rose deserved a second chance – and so did he. He needed a hand to hold, a person to run with, and a heart to love. He needed Rose.
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler, The Doctor (9th)
Warnings: Explicit sex.

Recced because: My last rec for this week is a Nine/Rose story in which Nine meets Rose before she meets him, and is chock full of wibbley-wobbley timey-wimey and beautifully written sex scenes. Their voices are perfect, and even though you may see the ending way before the last chapter arrives, it will still pull at your heart and not let go.

So, today's my last day at [livejournal.com profile] calufrax. Thank you for allowing me to rec wonderful stories here, and I hope to do it again sometime in the near future. Bye-bye! :D

Story: Lord Shiva in the House of Joy
Author: kalima
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 3003
Author's Summary: Desperate to remember who he is, the Eighth Doctor visits a certain house in St Louis in order to determine if he can, in fact, travel through time and space in the manner of Shiva.
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor and OCs.
Warnings: Moderately graphic talk of sex, though not much happens onscreen.

Recced because: This is the story of the Eighth Doctor and the denizens of a whorehouse, as told by the madam. Nowhere near as dirty as it sounds. Shiva references have shown up more than once in kalima's writing, but they're integral to this story, and the Eighth Doctor is as charming as ever. The narrator provides a fun change in perspective, especially apt when writing about a Doctor who doesn't know who he is.
platypus: (pumpkin - TARDIS (dim))

Story: Diverticulum
Author: Kate Andrews
Rating: I think it used to be "R," because it doesn't have one now. Adult, to be on the safe side?
Word Count: 1675
Author's Summary: Saying it like that felt so much better than saying 'pushed her guts back inside.'
Characters/Pairings: Ten and Rose -- does a bit of tension make it Ten/Rose?
Warnings: Medical squickiness.

Recced because: This is an odd little fic, rated the way it is not for sex or overt violence but because... well, to quote the story, "Three days ago, with her very own gut, [Rose] learned what it felt like when the Doctor repaired your serous membrane and restored the integrity of your peritoneal cavity." They manage to banter about it afterward, almost. I like the shifting balance of funny and serious, the awkwardness of the not-quite-spelled-out emotions, and the (mostly) sweet ending that doesn't quite go where you think it might.
