Story: Notice the Bumblebee
Author: ciccigreen
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2991
Author’s Summary: After a while, the Doctor notices certain oddities in Donna's behavior. Like how she always does the dishes and never truly talks about herself.
Characters/Pairings: 10th Doctor and Donna Noble
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is one of my favorite ships, and one of my favorite character introspection/insight stories. Ciccigreen has recced here before, but no one has recced her stuff and I think she writes brilliant Donna Noble stories, in spite of her own protests that she thinks Donna is a difficult character to write. This story gives a wonderful and insightful look into Donna’s character and why she is the way she is with the Doctor (and people in general). It’s funny, a bit romantic, and all around heart warming.

Hello again folks! Feels like I only recently recced, but I hope you don't mind having me again ;-) . My repetoire is mostly NuWho, but a few classics thrown in as well. My first recc is one I just finished reading, and I was absolutely hooked when she updating! You get it all in one shot though, so I hope you enjoy.

Story: Heeled
Author: Jellyneau
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 105192
Author's Summary: There he was. The 'Oncoming Storm'... caught, caged, and clad only in his pants... reduced to trying to look adorable enough to adopt in an effort to gain his freedom. But adoption isn’t the ticket to freedom the Doctor hoped it would be, and he discovers that if he wants to obtain it, he will will have to make some decisions that could easily change not only his and Rose’s lives, but the lives of all those on an entire planet as well.
Characters/Pairing:10th Doctor and Rose Tyler
Warnings: Explicit sex

Recced because: The story line and character development is just incredible, and it's all written around the idea that our pets are actually sentient creatures (and maybe they aren't always happy about the arrangements, as in the Doctor and Rose's case being captured against their will). Jellyneau has created a complex world of characters and creatures (the Danarians) with a culture and society all of their own. It’s totally fascinating, and almost feels like it could be a serial in NuWho, but in addition to that we get the blossoming love story of the Doctor and Rose as well, which adds a whole other dimension to the story. It’s so well-written, it’s addictive! You’ll be clicking next chapter, next chapter, next chapter and be done before you even know it.

Story: Scarves Are Not Meant To Be Used For That

Author: RachelStardust

Rating: All Ages

Word Count: 532

Author's Summary: Following in the tradition of my other fics, the Scarf has the floor.

Characters/Pairings: The Scarf

Warnings: None

Recced Because:

Sometimes a good dose of crack is in order. The Doctor has had many unique and memorable fashion accessories over the decades: The Bow Tie, The Fez, The Technocolour Dream Coat… but The Scarf stands tall as not only one of the Doctor's most recognisable accoutrements but also one of his most versatile. Watching Four romping through his episodes, it's easy to forget that scarves aren't intended as rope substitutes/lassos/impromptu shields/etc.

Well, unless you're the Scarf. Then it's impossible to forget.

Story: The Problem of Susan

Author: Marcus Rowland

Rating: Teen

Word Count: 12441

Author's Summary: After her family is killed, Susan Pevensie starts to remember Narnia. Someone thinks that's a very bad idea.

Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness

Warnings: Mild swearing, spoilers for all of the Narnia books

Recced Because:

Marcus Rowland isn't the first fanficcer to associate blue boxes and wardrobes. This complex and wonderfully researched take on the crossover interweaves Narnia and the Whoniverse in ways that are surprising, heart-wrenching, and fantastic.

Both canons are given respect, and the final coda made me laugh out loud with surprise. The writing is detailed and descriptive, but also compulsively readable, and you can tell that the author has done a lot of research to ensure historical accuracy (right down to checking the appropriate phases of the moon).

Most interesting, to me anyway, is that this fic looks at what happened to Susan after Narnia, and explores not only why she forgot, but also what became of her after the Last Battle.

Word Count: 905

Author's Summary: The Doctor, Jamie, and just the one parachute

Characters/Pairings: Jamie McCrimmon, Two

Warnings: None

Recced Because:

The Doctor and Jamie are on a plane. We don't know why they're on the plane or what will happen to them after they get back on solid ground, but that doesn't matter. The plane is crashing. Two and Jamie have a moment of adorable bickering which ends with inevitable clinging. It's just one scene out of an unknown, larger adventure, but with all of the missing episodes that seems distinctly Two-ish in itself.

Rating: Teen

Word Count: 4048

Author's Summary: This time with Amy and Rory was going to be different.

Characters/Pairings: Eleven/Amy/Rory, Eleven/River

Warnings: Recreational drug use

Recced Because:

I am actually astounded that no one has beat me to reccing this, because it is hilarious (it really should have a tea-near-keyboard warning on it), sexy, clever, and one of the overall best Eleven/Amy/Rory fics I've ever read. It continues such diverse marvels as: Eleven attempting to cook breakfast, Eleven being angry at primitive kitchen appliances, jokes about the UNIT dating controversy, futuristic petunias, Sharkrace 3000, and a scene inspired by this post from texts from the TARDIS.

There's so much going on that when I went to fill out the reccing form I was a bit stunned to realize it's only a little over 4000 words. And, however whacky it all gets, the character voices read true throughout. It's about the Ponds being a strange, dysfunctional, happy, ridiculous family who continue to be all of those descriptors whether they are rocketing across the cosmos on the back of a magical space whale, or sitting around the kitchen eating cereal.

Story: it's a bit dodgy this process

Author: lyricalprose

Rating: All Ages

Word Count: 1873

Author's Summary: (Twelve/Rose). Rose, jumping with the Dimension Cannon, happens upon Eleven as he regenerates.

Characters/Pairings: Twelve/Rose, Eleven, Clara

Warnings: None

Recced Because:

When you write into the future you do so with the knowledge that your interpretations stand a good chance of being Jossed. The regeneration depicted in this fic is not the regeneration we saw at Christmas time, but that's okay. With all of the Dimensions Rose jumped between I like to think that this happened somewhere. It's not a pairing I usually ship, but even as a non-shipper I found this story compelling and excellent. It is Rose's story, more than it is the Doctor's or Clara's, but the characterization of all three is very good and the glimpse of Twelve (Thirteen? One-B? Whatever fandom decides on for Capaldi…) is marvellous.

If you're willing to take a chance on a story that is a bit AU and contains a Doctor that we haven't seen much of yet then you couldn't take that chance with a better story than this.

Story: Breaking the Silence

Author: Grym

Rating: All Ages

Word Count: 2078

Author's Summary: The Doctor struggles with memory, loss, and a forceful companion as he and Donna leave the planet of the Ood. (S4 spoilers through PotO.)

Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Tenth Doctor

Warnings: None

Recced because:

Ten and Donna are one of my all-time favourite TARDIS teams. They worked as bright and shiny complements to each other. Ten gave Donna the inspiration to stretch her wings, and Donna was always there to pick up the Doctor when his wings failed him. In this episode-tag to Planet of the Ood, Ten is pretending to be fine, as he does, and Donna uses her practical, no-nonsense Chiswick approach to sort him out.

This fic is warm and sad at the same time; emotional H/C at its best. It's got great dialogue, beautifully poetic descriptions, and a wonderful portrayal of "Donna Noble of Chiswick, social justice activist from the galaxy next door". I love it a lot, and I hope you do too.

Characters/Pairings: None listed, but includes Harry Sullivan, Sarah Jane Smith, Fourth Doctor

Recced because: This is the story of how the Doctor and Susan ended up on Akhaten. It's really interesting to see how different he acts to when he visits with Clara. It's great characterisation as to what he and Susan were like before they spent a few months living in London in the 1960s.

Recced because: It's Gita being blind when it comes to aliens, which is fun enough on its own, but what makes this story stand out particularly is that it's written from the alien's point of view. Recced because: There are two elements to this story, each of them interesting in their own right, but together they make a nice contrast. There's plenty for the Doctor, Sarah and Harry to do in it, using their particular skills. The characterisation of the three main characters is spot on and the original characters and their races are fleshed out and interesting.

Word Count: 1,222
Author's Summary: A girl’s got to keep herself in platform boots and plastic daffodils, after all.
Characters/Pairings: Jo Grant, Third Doctor, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart
Warnings: none

Recced because: I'm genuinely shocked this hasn't been recced yet, but all that means is that I get the pleasure of doing so myself. Jo often doesn't get enough credit as a companion; she's perceived as "the ditzy one," and sure, she can be a bit flighty, but what if that's just a characteristic masking a far darker talent? After all, no one said assassins for hire had to be dour, serious folks; they could just as easily cheerfully stab someone with a knitting needle or feed someone some festively decorated poison cakes. And thus Jo acquires a new backstory I'm perfectly willing to believe is true, although I suppose your mileage may vary there.

Story: Temporal Displacement
Author: Nostalgia
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2,287
Author's Summary: In which Clara may or may not be pregnant.
Characters/Pairings: Eleven/Clara
Warnings: swearing; possible dubcon during offscreen sexual activity

Recced because: In a universe with canonical time travel, a hero who regenerates instead of dying, and villains who can literally threaten all of reality itself, how much more of a leap is a temporally displaced pregnancy? Not much of one, in my opinion, and it's the premise of this story: Clara is going to be pregnant with the Doctor's child in three weeks, and she doesn't want to be, so surely as long as she and the Doctor avoid each other, everything will turn out fine, right? But of course, that's far easier said than done.

With this premise, you could go creepy or comedy, and while the creepy approach would be equally fine with me, Nos' touch here is much lighter. "Temporal Displacement" is breezy and funny without going over the top into crack – and ultimately, it's a surprisingly romantic tale.

Word Count: 4,605
Author's Summary: The Brigadier has his hands full when an alien escape pod lands.
Characters/Pairings: Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart/Liz Shaw, Captain Yates, Jo Grant, Third Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: UNIT is used to dealing with the strange and unusual, but not always peacefully ... which makes the arrival of an alien baby more than a little confounding, especially for the Brigadier. He might have a daughter of his own, but that doesn't necessarily make him comfortable dealing with an alien infant, and his substitute for a temporarily absent Doctor – Liz Shaw – isn't entirely happy at being drawn back into UNIT's unique brand of chaos, either. (Not in the least because it reminds her of certain inappropriate feelings she'd had for her supervisor.) But the plot isn't why you should read this story, although it's a good one; no, you should read it because it's really a sweet-natured character piece with emotional depth for both the Brig and Liz, written with such thoughtful attention to voice that I had no trouble hearing each character speak in my head.

Characters/Pairings: Amy/Rory, Amy/Rory/Jack, Martha, Sarah Jane, Rose, Ninth Doctor, Canton Everett Delaware III
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: "The Angels Take Manhattan" left a giant-sized hole in canon for fic writers to fill: namely, how Amy and Rory spent their years in the past. Kaydee Falls posits quite reasonably that they could have met any number of characters with whom we're already familiar -- Martha during the Depression, Rose during Elizabeth II's coronation, Jack during World War II, and others. The characterization and voices are spot-on, and there's a gentle sense of humor that feels completely in keeping with the Ponds' unconventional relationship to each other, not to mention their unflappability when it comes to accepting the unusual, like a stranger in Barcelona, Spain berating himself for not mentioning something travels in time.

Characters/Pairings: Ace/Hex, Seventh Doctor

Recced because: This is another one that caught my eye in the queue, and I immediately knew I had to rec it someday. Ace is so very Ace in this story, fierce yet playful, first seducing Hex into using the transmogrification gun Ace has already grown quite comfortable with, then seducing Hex himself. Genderswap can be tough to pull off effectively without falling into stereotype territory, but that never happens here; each character remains recognizably themselves, no matter what body they're in, and takes pleasure in discovering the thrill of the new – and how surprisingly comfortable it can become.

A little Ian/Barbara character exploration, set post their departure in "The Chase."
Characters/Pairings: Barbara/Ian, River
Warnings: None

Recced because: One of the benefits of moderating the Teaspoon queue is getting to see great fic before anyone else on the site does, and I was especially pleased this one came my way; it's a story with rare sensitivity to language, and equal sensitivity to the relationship between the characters. Ian and Barbara's time on the TARDIS changed them, not just in how they perceive history and the world around them now that they're no longer traveling in time and space, but also in how they perceive each other. Adjustment to normal life is hard, but sharing it with someone you care about, and who knows what you've been through, makes it that much easier, and that much more wonderful.

Story: They
Author: Prochytes
Rating: teen
Word Count: 2295
Author's Summary: Remarkably, the Doctor was the easy one.
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper, Kate Stewart, Martha Jones
Warnings: none

Recced because: What a great year it was for Doctor Who in its fiftieth year. Lost episodes found, regenerations shown and so many new stories told. One of my favourite characters in the fiftieth special was Kate Stewart. After  her (re)introduction on the show I immediately went looking for fic, but sadly, there isn't much available. The Teaspoon hosts less than fifteen stories featuring her, of which 'They' is the newest addition. Luckily, it's a great story, featuring not just Kate, but many others, too. The dialogue (and it is mostly dialogue) is truly great, with lots of references and name dropping for the careful reader. It had me smiling, laughing and, at the end, almost crying.

'They' is a heartwarming story about 'them'; the people around the Doctor, those who stay on earth and do the very best they can do. It's about Kate Stewart working to get UNIT back on track, with Martha Jones and Gwen Cooper guiding her along the way. It is about Torchwood and UNIT and all those other people, who sometimes make the wrong choices and cannot travel back in time to put them right. It's also about the Doctor, and how he touches the lives of those around him: both of those who travel with him and those who don't. It's not pretty and it's not forgiving, but it's beautiful regardless (or perhaps because of that).

enjoy!

Hello everyone, I'm annauq and I'm back for another round of reccing!
To start of my week(s) I have something featuring one of my favourite tardis teams.

Story: Tea in the tardis
Author: platoapproved
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1310
Author's Summary: The Doctor and Charley make C'rizz drink a cup of tea for the first time. Set after Caerdroia.
Characters/Pairings: The Doctor (8th), Charley Pollard, C'rizz, the TARDIS
Warnings: None

Recced because: Well-written C'rizz fic, do I need another reason? the Doctor makes tea, Charley has a laugh and C'rizz is confused by it all. It's full of little references to their adventures and feels like part of one. In short: it captures the feel of their era perfectly(is it an era, can I call it an era?): it's cute, hilarious but also a little bit angsty.

Platoapproved writes C'rizz's wonder and confusion wonderfully without making him sound childish or naïve. His unique qualities are subtly explored, and his fears feel very real without completely taking over the scene. I've always thought C'rizz was a fascinating character, and I'm forever sad his personality didn't get explored more before he, euhm.. left.

Apparently a mark of great (big finish) fanfic is when you hear the voices of the characters in your head as you read, and that is certainly the case here. So, go ahead and read!

If you've been reading this comm for a while but have never stepped forward to rec, please consider it – everyone, new and old reccers alike, is welcome to rec. (And even if you're not willing to rec for whatever reason, please consider re-posting this entry in your own journals – every little bit of publicity we get helps keep the comm going.)

All you need to do select 4-10 stories that haven't been recced before and that meet the comm's fairly basic rules (well-written/formatted, no bashfic, etc.). Reccing periods last two weeks, and our first open slot begins January 13.

You can read the rules and sign up to rec in this post. Thank you!

Warnings: None.

Recced because: Romana, Eight, a gothic novel, and something disturbing happening to Time. This story has been in my bookmarks for years now and I'm amazed it hasn't been recced before, cryptic as it is: the language is beautiful, the characters are spot-on, and it's downright unnerving.  Absolutely worth a read or ten.

This will be my final rec this week. Hopefully, you enjoyed at least a few of them. ;-) Now that I'm surrounded by snow, I can't help but think of Christmas and how we only have 10 more days until 11 regenerates...

Story: How the Doctor Stole Christmas
Author: Endelda
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1237
Author's Summary: But the Doctor, who lived in the TARDIS, did not.
Characters/Pairings: 10th Doctor and Rose Tyler
Warnings: Please DO NOT warn for slash or het.

Recced because: It's silly and sexy and festive, and if anyone had a reason to dislike Christmas, I'd say it's the Doctor. Christmas never seems to go so well for him, but at least in this version he gets a happy ending, with no hand choppings or ship crashings to get in the way.

Happy Whomas to all, and to all a good night!

Story: They Taste Better on Tuesdays
Author: PhoenixDragon
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1442
Author's Summary: Astounding. The man seemed to be familiar with him, but funnily enough, he couldn’t place the intruder at all. And he was very good with faces. It was something he prided himself on – after all, he’d had a few himself.
Characters/Pairings: 4th Doctor, and one surprise NuWho guest
Warnings: None

Recced because: I guess seeing old Tom Baker in the 50th got me nostalgic for the 4th Doctor. PhoenixDragon has been recced here before, and with good reason-her stuff is well-written, engaging, and humorous, and this story is no exception. The Doctor gets a surprise visit on the TARDIS, and we get to watch the hilarity unfold as he tries to figure out how exactly this guy knows him. Maybe grab some jelly babies, if you have them. Save the yellow ones for Tuesday, though. On that day, they're the Doctor's favorite. ;-)

Story: A Hairy Situation
Author: Katherine_b
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2708
Author's Summary: A disaster strikes the Doctor. Donna isn't helping.
Characters/Pairings: 10th Doctor and Donna Noble
Warnings: None

Recced because: There's only a handful of recs for this pairing (and by that I mean less than 20, which is not enough. TEAM DONNA NOBLE FOREVER!), and it happens to be one of my all time favorite ships. Katherine_b has written loads of lovely stories featuring the Doctor and Donna, some romantic in nature, some not. This is one of the latter, even though I quite enjoy the former. I think perhaps my favorite thing about this story as that it captures the familiar (and humorous) dynamic between the Doctor and Donna very well, and it's hilarious and heart warming. The Doctor discovers he has a gray hair. You don't have to imagine what happens next, because you can read it instead. ;-)

Story: Fifty Shades of Skaro
Author: Kelkat9
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 1939
Author's Summary:In the episode "Dalek," the Dalek downloaded the internet. All of the internet with everything that entails from science to entertainment to, ahem, more adult pursuits. It gave the Dalek thoughts.
Characters/Pairings: 9th Doctor, Rose Tyler, a Dalek
Warnings: Explicit sex

Recced because:I've never read 50 Shades of Grey. I refuse to on the principle that I can read smutty fanfiction online for free, and it will feature the Doctor and Rose or Donna or Romana, etc... instead of...you get the point. My name is doctorxdonna, and I'm a crackficaholic... 50 Shades fans and crackfic lovers alike can hopefully raise a few eyebrows and have a few laughs together here. Kelkat9 writes lots of funny, crackficy stuff, and this is just one of many. Enjoy. };-)

Story: Closed
Author: A_Who_in_Whoville
Rating: Adult
Word Count:103773
Author's Summary: The breach between universes is permanently closed. After a horrific accident, Rose Tyler decides to re-create herself. Broadchurch is as good a place as any to start afresh. Crossover with Broadchurch.
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler, Jake Simmonds, 10th Doctor/DI Alex Hardy, Jackie Tyler, Pete Tyler
Warnings: Explicit sex, and a canon character death early on.

Recced because: Since the first series of the show has finished, there have been a lot more Doctor Who/Broadchurch crossover fics popping up. Closed is one of the first, and IMHO, one of the best as well. It's not a reunion fic though, and the 10th Doctor only ever appears in Rose's dreams and memories. Rather, she finds solace in a world where she and the Doctor never reunite in a man who shares his face: DI Alec Hardy. It's a really well done story, and you'll be rooting for Rose and Alec the whole time, so you won't get a chance to be disappointed that there is no actual 10 in it. Plus, we get lots of Jake Simmonds, who is an awesome and underused character. I read this fic as it was being updated, and was on tenterhooks waiting for her to update chapters. You're lucky enough to get it all in one shot! Enjoy. :)

Story: Hello, Goodnight
Author: myprvvalentine
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 800
Author's Summary: There will be no grand goodbye tour this time. Who would he say goodbye to? Most of them are gone, lost to time and space. But the TARDIS has plans of her own, and the Doctor finds there are people left in the world to say goodbye to.
Characters/Pairings: 11th Doctor, Alfie Owens
Warnings: None. Just watch out for the feels again!

Recced because: The 10th Doctor's swan song was pretty damn sad, but this makes an even sadder point: 11 pretty much has no one he can say goodbye to, they're all dead or lost in time. Except for the son of Craig and Sophie Owens. Bittersweet snapshot of two characters getting a chance to interact in a way that they never did in canon. Bonus for the Doctor that this is someone's life that he directly influenced without destroying.

Story: Winner Takes All
Author: LN29
Rating: Teen
Word Count:205,464
Author's Summary:A man with two hearts wakes up in an underground cavern with absolutely no memory of who he is or how he got there. Or who the nine strangers with him are. But what starts as a search for answers and identity rapidly turns to a fight for their very survival as the true stakes of the twisted game are revealed, and a surprising connection is forged.
Characters/Pairings: 10th Doctor, Rose Tyler, other canon characters
Warnings: According to the author none, but there are some emotional (and sometimes violent) character deaths. So I'll warn for feels, just in case. And some violence.

Recced because: it's one hell of a wild ride, and one I'd take again and again. This was one of the very first fics I read when I first joined the Teaspoon, and I fell completely in love with it. I think if Suzanne Collins and Russel T. Davies had a little fanfiction lovechild, it would be this story. LN29 weaves a tale so vivid and complex, you will be sad to see it end at a mere 205,464 words. The beauty of the story is that it's so well done, you could have little to no background knowledge of Doctor Who and still be captivated. That we as the reader recognize who the individual characters are though makes it that much more exciting. I have a soft spot in my heart(s?) for this fic, I hope you'll find a place for it in your own.

Story: Does the Doctor Know Where His Towel Is?
Author: Astro Girl
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 623
Author's Summary: Nowhere in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy's entry on the Doctor is there any mention of towels. This fact has more significant consequences than you might imagine.
Characters/Pairings: None, technically.
Warnings: None

Recced because: I don't know about you, but I usually prefer to have my Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters with a side of crossover fic. A brief and humorous nod to the most famous work of late and great former Who writer Douglas Adams'. Probably still funny if you haven't read The Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy, but I strongly recommend doing that if you haven't already. If anything, it will make the Doctor's hatred of 'funny robots' that much more entertaining for you. ;-) Astro Girl does a good job of capturing the spirit and mood of both Hitchhiker's Guide and DW.

Story: So, 11 Doctors Walk Into A Bar
Author: enchantment
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2873
Author's Summary: The First Doctor takes Susan out to celebrate her birthday. When he steps away, Jack Harkness introduces himself and attempts to make Susan his next conquest. It's up to the other ten Doctors to make sure that he doesn't succeed.
Characters/Pairings: 1st Doctor, 2nd Doctor, 3rd Doctor, 4th Doctor, 5th Doctor, 6th Doctor, 7th Doctor, 8th Doctor, 9th Doctor, 10th Doctor, 11th Doctor, Jack Harkness, Susan Foreman
Warnings: None

Recced because: I had a bad day and needed a laugh, and this one never fails to put a smile on my face. This one is witty and endearing, in a what-it-says-on-the-tin sort of way, and enchantment does a good job capturing the personality and mannerisms of each individual Doctor. It left me in stitches the first time I read it, hopefully it will do the same for you. :)
