Author's Summary: A brief interlude in the shared lives of Martha and Harry.

Recced because: This is such a sweet Martha/Harry story. They're both great in it, being themselves and being amusing and sweet because of it.

Apologies for the lack of recs the last couple days; I've been down with a nasty flu.

Story: Kodachrome
Author: livii
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2349
Author's Summary: "She's memorable, Martha Jones. He never had a chance."
Characters/Pairings: Martha Jones, Harry Sullivan
Warnings: none

Recced because: This is the story that completely sold me on Martha/Harry. For those of you who haven't read anything by livii, yes, Martha and Harry have never canonically met. If that prevented us from shipping them, we wouldn't be in fandom, would we? It's a beautiful portrait of Harry, and life with(out) the Doctor, and knowing the future.

(Also, it includes lines like: "He realizes that even with ten years' warning, he's still incapable of making sensible conversation, and so the floor collapsing underneath them is a stroke of terrible good fortune." Enough said.)

Story: Sugar, Sugar
Author: Livii
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1,450
Author's Summary: "Come on," Martha said, "hop on the back of my scooter; there's just room enough for two." 1969 has unexpected pleasures.
Characters/Pairings: Martha/Harry Sullivan, Ten
Warnings: None

Recced because: When I put together my rec list for this week, I had no idea that [livejournal.com profile] livii would be one of my fellow reccers, or that another one of her Martha/Harry stories would be linked this week. But I'm reccing this story anyway, because it's lovely.

I have a soft spot for any fic in which the characters accidentally (and temporarily) have to live normal lives, and 1969 fic falls squarely into that category. Pairing Martha Jones with Harry Sullivan, who would have been her contemporary at the time, makes this particular 1969 fic that much more special. Bumbling, slightly stuffy, sweet-natured Harry meets his match in Martha, a relationship [livejournal.com profile] livii has explored in other stories, but this one recounts their earliest days together – a first meeting with the accident-prone Harry, and subsequent dates that culminate in Martha's revelation that she's somewhat more than she appears to be. It's a charming love story between what looks on the surface like a very unlikely pair, but by the end of this story, Martha and Harry seem made for each other.

Story: Sullivan and Jones, Medical Mysteries Our Specialty
Author: [livejournal.com profile] livii
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 3761
Author's Summary: Saving the world, one duck-person at a time.
Characters/Pairings: Harry Sullivan/Martha Jones
Warnings: None given

Recced because: Possibly the flagship story for [livejournal.com profile] the_twodoctors. Livii writes a charming, endearing Harry and spot-on Martha. They fight crime save the world some more, fall in love, and just might get that fairy tale ending. Maybe.

Story: Clyde Langer: Man from Mars
Author: livii
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 3,587
Author's Summary: The year was 2015. Clyde Langer had a degree in Economics and Management. He needed a job. Something with aliens would work just fine.
Characters/Pairings: Clyde Langer/Luke Smith, Maria Jackson, Harry Sullivan/Martha Jones, Sarah Jane Smith/John Benton, Emily Chaudry/Francis Currie
Warnings: None

Recced because: For one thing, there is not nearly enough fanfiction that features the characters from The Sarah Jane Adventures, and there is not nearly enough fanfiction that features the characters from Big Finish's UNIT audios, and there is not nearly enough fanfiction that features characters from both, and draws on Doctor Who's long history with such precision and excellent characterisation and makes it all so fun. Clyde Langer's future spells itself out here, with the tongue-in-cheek humour and occasional moments of real profundity that suit him so well.

Warnings: nope

Recced because: These are simply amazing. They just might be my favorite thing in all of Who fan fiction, and I don't say that lightly. I don't know how she does it, but [livejournal.com profile] livii manages to pack so much into these little stories. Entire worlds and relationships and so much emotion in tiny snapshots. And I really think there is something for everyone here. Whatever pairings or characters you prefer, whether you enjoy angst or humor or action, it's all there. And the best part is, it looks like she is going to continue to update the masterlist as she writes more of these ficlets, so bookmark this page, people!

(PS. As an added bonus, Benton stars in a number of the stories and she writes him fabulously.)

Marvellous Martha Jones

I'm recommending Martha Jones-centric fics all this week but they're not all Martha/Ten.

Story: Harry, Who Understood
Author: livii
Rating: Teen
Author's summary: Dying's a bit interesting. She has a boyfriend; they save each other.
Characters: Harry Sullivan, Martha Jones
Warnings: Spoilers for TW 2:06 Reset
Word Count: 1509

Recced because: It was [livejournal.com profile] livii who sold me on the pairing of Harry Sullivan and Martha Jones and she's the chief advocate of the pairing. In this lovely missing scene fic we see that Martha has discovered in Harry Sullivan a man whom she can trust and love.

Harry takes her in his arms, ignoring the looks he earns from the people around them.
"Martha," he says gently, "Doctor Martha Jones, you've studied, you've worked, you've walked the Earth and you are the doctor now, you know. The definitive article, as it were, to me."
She smiles at that, real joy lighting up her eyes. "You keep saving me, Doctor Sullivan," she says, laughing as he furrows his brow in confusion. "I love you."
He kisses her and she remembers touching all the stars in the sky.

Story: As Ordinary Things Often Do
Author: Doyle
Rating: All Ages
Author's summary: Benton and Harry need a TARDIS. Rose and Martha have one.
Characters/Pairings: Martha Jones/Harry Sullivan, Rose Tyler/John Benton
Warnings: none
Word Count: 3,500 words

Recced because: This just might be my favourite fic in the history of ever. It was written for me in a ficathon where I’d requested these two pairings (my crack OTPs) as well as the idea that “genetic transfer through kissing” could have hilarious time-travelling, crime-solving possibilities for Rose and Martha. Doyle managed to turn this silliness into something that, while still very funny, is also extremely well written, has absolutely dead-on characterization, and is packed with small truths about time travel and choices. With the bonuses of neat AU turns off of canon, a cameo by another woman who’s been kissed by the Doctor, the Brigadier, swimsuits that take hours to do up, cracks on Torchwood, K-9 and UNIT dating problems, a Harry who’s still quite the navy man, and a last line for Benton that broke my heart into happy pieces – and especially, pairings that really truly totally work – this is, on the whole, a fantastic piece of work.
